The Documentation Centre (DC) was created in 1970 to provide support to UNESCO program specialists based in DAKAR, to national consultants and to regional experts in the region in the execution of task in the organisation's fields of competence. The centre gives pratical training in documentation techniques and plays a leading role in serving as a liaison centre for the UN, ONG and partners organisations.The Documentation Centre situated on the first floor is the heart thurb of activities for UNESCO-DAKAR. Opening hours and services provided The Centre is open to the public from : Tuesday to Thursday, 8.00 AM to 4:30 PM Friday, 8.00 AM to 1.00 PM. It provides the following services: The Centre provides timely and relevant information to users, it carries out the essential services of acquiring electronic and print materials and processing them for easy retrieval. It promotes prompt, user-friendly and high quality service to support the information needs of our Programme specialists, researchers, scholars, trainees, consultants and the public. The Centre is currently expanding into a ressorces centre providing educational links, current awareness, document delivery, internet access and bibliographic database searches through networking. It publishes lists of the new titles available, including summaries of periodicals. It informs specialists in the Office about new titles available according to their interests and area of expertise. It allows outside users free access to the bookshelves It provides short practical training sessions in documentation techniques for students and agents involved in national projects.
