Long considered as an exclusive place for the conservation
of cultural objects, the museum should today, be an instrument for understanding
the history of a people. Its educational mission should increasingly be
highlighted because it is complementary to historical study. Its interactive
role should be reaffirmed to attract the youth. And, it is because the
museum will be at the service of development of national and local communities,
that it will open its doors to the populations whose testimonies and vestiges
it preserves and develops.
UNESCO’s support deals with the enumeration of the museums and the
ethical dimension of their objects.
