The slave trade has generated sites and places of
memory which can constitute motivating factors for cultural tourism:
the tourism of memory. Launched in 1994 by UNESCO and the World Tourism
Organization (WTO), the cultural tourism programme on the slave route
is aimed at creating the favourable conditions for the restoration,
preservation and promotion of monuments and sites of the slave trade
and slavery. |
