CHILDREN
ON THE STREET
Senegal is being confronted with the ever-growing phenomenon of children suffering hardships, which is reaching alarming proportions, especially in Dakar. Most of these children resort to begging and thus expose themselves to various forms of exploitation by adults. Several national and international institutions along with Non-governmental organisations carry out support and supervision activities for these children.
The BREDA
organized a National
Seminar for Discussion and Reflexion in December 2000 whose aim
was to allow participants to share their experiences and suggest a
coordinated strategy for concrete activities.-
Children living on the street are easily tempted into using all sorts
of drugs. The production of adequate learning material is being planned
for them, as well as user guides for the teachers.-
The International Day for Innocent Children Victims of Aggressions
(4 June) will be commemorated in two of the countries covered by the
BREDA Representation: Sierra Leone and Liberia.
