 Educational Policies and Strategies


MISSION

The main objective of the "Educational Strategies and Policies" Section (EPS) of UNESCO/BREDA in Dakar is to make its expertise in the field of reforming and rebuilding the educational system available to all Sub-Saharan member states.


OBJECTIVES

It is especially concerned with:

  • helping member states develop educational policies, strategies and national plans of action, especially in countries where the educational system is being rebuilt;
  • promoting the structures that help literacy and education programs for all and for life;
  • strengthening national and local capacities in the field of planning, conception, construction and the management of the school environment;
  • co-ordinating various operational projects funded with extra-budgetary resources.

ACTIVITIES and PROJECTS

The actions it is planning to carry out in the various requesting countries are a part of its activities for regular and extra-budgetary UNESCO programmes.

SCHOOLCONSEM IV : Regional consultation on how to raise quality in terms of buildings, equipment and teaching materials for schools
Development of the Centres for Educational Resources (CER) in Sub-Saharan Africa (Co-Action Project – UNESCO Clubs – UNESCO)
Rehabilitation of the sector of education in Liberia (PNUD Project — Liberia - UNESCO)
Development of elementary school education in Senegal (BAD Project — Senegal - UNESCO)
Improving the quality of basic, technical and vocational education in Sierra Leone (BAD Project — Gambia - UNESCO)
Construction of primary schools in the rural areas of Guinea (OPEP Project — Guinea - UNESCO)
Project of support to basic education in Mali (OPEP Project — Mali - UNESCO)
Promotion of educational opportunities for the rehabilitation of vulnerable children in Angola (Italy Project — Angola — UNESCO)
Support to traumatised girls in Liberia (Liberia Project —UNESCO)
Support to the Educational sector in the Gambia (BAD Project — Gambia — UNESCO)
