TEACHING
AT UNIVERSITY
In
1987, the BREDA organized a regional
colloquium in Dakar on ways to improve
and renovate higher education in Africa.
This colloquium recommended that the
BREDA co-operates with African member
states in order to design and implement
major programmes in the following areas:
The
BREDA ensured these recommendations
were followed up through the regular
programmes and regional co-operation.
During the 1992-1993 period, the BREDA
organized in collaboration with the
Association of African Universities
two sub-regional networks on university
teaching.
Thanks
to funding from the Italian Episcopal
Conference, the BREDA organized in 1996-1997
three training workshops for those responsible
of the sections on university teaching
in French-speaking, English-speaking
and Portuguese-speaking areas.
The
experience gathered and the materials
produced through the workshops led to
the elaboration of the first draft of
a guide to university teaching. The
overall aim of the guide is to improve
the quality of university teaching by
strengthening teaching skills and capacities
among teachers and by improving the
training conditions.
As
part of the stage of finalization of
the guide, the BREDA organized in 1998-99
six national and/or regional training
workshops for teachers on university
teaching aimed at:
