STATUTES AND CONDITIONS OF TEACHERS *Download Acrobat to read PDF files

The recommendations made in 1966 and 1997 on the condition of teachers, including teaching staff in higher education, represent strong legal instruments for the promotion of the condition of teachers.

During the 2000-2001 biennium, UNESCO and ILO committed themselves to pursuing their work for the promotion and the defense of the conditions and rights of teachers, mainly through the following strategies:

These two recommendations will be printed and distributed widely by the BREDA, especially through:

  • the national, regional and international conferences that will be organized in Africa in 2000-2001 on the theme of education
  • the commemoration of the World Teachers Day

The BREDA will also ask the UNESCO national commissions and the teachers associations to organize round tables on these two recommendations.

Forthcoming activities in 2001

  • Organization of round tables on the 1966 and 1997 recommendations
  • Publication of a study on the follow-up to the 1966 recommendation
  • Commemoration of the World Teachers Day
  • Production of the report of the 7th ordinary session of the CEART
