The recommendations
made in 1966 and 1997 on the condition of teachers, including teaching
staff in higher education, represent strong legal instruments for the
promotion of the condition of teachers.
During the 2000-2001
biennium, UNESCO and ILO committed themselves to pursuing their work for
the promotion and the defense of the conditions and rights of teachers,
mainly through the following strategies:
These two recommendations
will be printed and distributed widely by the BREDA, especially through:
- the national,
regional and international conferences that will be organized in Africa
in 2000-2001 on the theme of education
- the commemoration
of the World Teachers Day
The BREDA will also
ask the UNESCO national commissions and the teachers associations to organize
round tables on these two recommendations.
