EFA
National Coordinators Meeting of sub-Saharan Africa

Context
The
Education Community pledged at the World Education Forum in Dakar
to attain education for all by 2015 and advised that countries prepare
credible National Action Plans by 2002.
In
order to facilitate the completion of such plans, UNESCO Regional
Office in Dakar (BREDA) in collaboration with key
education development partners, calls for a broad-based meeting
of forty-six African EFA National Coordinators in Paris,
to assess the progress made, determine the needs, facilitate networking
among stakeholders, and stimulate donor support.
Main
objective
Facilitate the preparation of EFA National Action Plans and strengthen
synergies among partners.
Specific
objetives
-
Assess
progress achieved by Member States of the region in the preparation
of EFA National Plans of Action;
-
Review
the Draft Regional Action Plan;
-
Develop
regional mechanisms for the EFA follow-up;
-
Promote collaboration with development partners.
Expected
outcomes
-
Progress
regarding the preparation of the EFA National Action Plans assessed;
-
Short-term
work-plans produced and commitments made by Coordinators to
finalise such plans by 2002;
-
Recommendations
on the Draft Regional Action Plan formulated and adopted by
participants;
-
Regional
mechanisms for the EFA follow-up defined;
- Collaboration
with development partners strengthened.
