CAREER
DAY FOR
GIRLS' MAINTENANCE AT SCHOOL
|
Within
the framework of the activities planned by the International Community
to celebrate the Education for all week, FAWE-Senegal and CNEPSCOFI
decided to organize, in partnership with UNICEF, the "career
day" for girls' maintenance at school.
The main goal is to keep girls at school and give them arguments
for success.
With this purpose, five main activities are planned from 12th April
to 31st July 2003.

CAREER
DAY
This career day will give practical and interactive information
about careers to pupils from 28 secondary schools that have FAWE
excellence clubs in 11 regions in Senegal.
Five "model women" working in various sectors will present
this "career day". These persons will speak about their
job and how they managed to become what they are. This activity
will concern 12 000 secondary around pupils , as well as pupils
from both primary schools nearest to each one of the high schools.
FEED BACK ACTIVITIES
The "career day" will hopefully increase the awareness
of the targeted girls from high schools, so that they will be able
to make a speech to their little sisters from both primary schools
nearest to their high school, in front of parents' representatives.
The whole year long, a close follow-up of this activity will be
done by various partners (FAWE-Senegal, CNEPSCOFI), to make sure
high school students are getting involved in sponsoring a primary
school pupil targeted between 20th April and 15th June, following
a precise calendar.
CONTEST
A contest of the best dissertation on the theme "Give girls
reasons for success to make them feel like staying at school and
going out of it with a qualifying education" will be planned.
This contest will be open to the 10 best pupils of each level (from
"seconde" to "terminal") of each high school.
French teachers will correct copies.
PRIZE GIVING
-
At high school level
- At regional level
- At national level (during the general contest ceremony)
These different ceremonies will take place in a formal way, in front
of the families, FAWE's sponsors and national and regional authorities,
so that high school girls shall feel encouraged to get personally
involved in girls' maintenance at school and in the development
of a Chain of Support and Solidarity.
School furniture will be given to targeted pupils from primary schools
by CNEPSCOFI.
DEVELOPMENT
AND FOLLOW-UP OF THE SUPPORT CHAIN
Little
activities (already experimented and conclusive at FAWE excellence
clubs level) planned by high school girls, will be registered in
a special book.
Finally,
this activity, if it is well organized and followed through properly,
should prepare high school girls to leadership and should allow
them to have a citizen attitude that will make them real sponsors
for their little sisters from the neighboring primary school.
