"Promotion Reform of Technical and
vocational education
and training for sustainable Development in Africa"
Kampala, Uganda - 10-13 December 2001
1. A Sub-regional workshop on the "Promotion Reform
of Technical and vocational education and training for sustainable
Development in Africa" is held at International Conference
Center, Kampala, Uganda from 10 to 13 December 2001.
2. The purpose of the workshop is to facilitate exchange
of ideas and share information and knowledge on good practices
to enable the participating countries to formulate technical
and vocational education and training (TVET) policies, strategies
and action plans for implementation, in order to enhance the
necessary reforms in this type of Education to meet the challenges
of globalisation and sustainable development in Africa.
3. The workshop which is bring together participants from
Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius,
Rwanda, Tanzania, Seychelles and Uganda in this field is also
attend by representatives of donors Agencies, public and private
sector.
4. By the end of the workshop, the participants would have
arrived at a set of policies, strategies and various options
for planning and implementary TVET that will provide real
opportunities for Africans to achieve sustainable endogenous
development and to match along with the rest of the world
in this era of globalisation. They would also have identified
priorities for national plane of action and follow up activities.
5. The workshop is also elaborating Sub-regional project
proposals in this field of education for presentation to donors.
6. The workshop is organising by Uganda National Commission
for UNESCO in cooperation for UNESCO, Pr. Augustin MARIRO
Program specialist in Regional Office in Dakar is representing
UNESCO in this meeting.
