Meeting of EFA Partners for the Africa Region

Meeting of EFA Partners for the Africa Region
Antananarivo, Panorama Hotel Madagascar,
5 May 2001

I.The context

The EFA follow up is a collective responsibility that all educational partners, at national, regional and international levels, have agreed to assume. In keeping with the role mandated to UNESCO "in coordinating EFA partners and maintaining their collaborative momentum" and in order to support the Education For All movement in sub-Saharan Africa, the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) is committed to organizing and reinforcing synergy with EFA regional partners through consensus and collaborative action.
In this connection, it has initiated a draft regional action plan as an EFA follow up . This is a mechanism that will serve to mobilise and co-ordinate support from all our educational partners to all Member States of the African Region to achieve the specific objectives in their EFA national action plans .

II.Objectives of the meeting

The objectives of the meeting are the following :

  • To promote, reinforce and consolidate exchanges among the regional partners on the Dakar World Forum follow-up.
  • To involve education partners in the process of elaborating and executing a regional action plan as an EFA follow up .
  • To seek consensus on the means and mechanisms developed for a regional action plan follow-up.

  1. Sharing of views by the different regional partners on the main activities carried out since the Dakar World Forum (April 2000).
