TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR JOURNALISTS COVERING EDUCATIONAL TOPICS

Dakar, 18 - 22 February, 2002

UNESCO, UNICEF and PANAPRESS are jointly organizing a workshop for journalists specialized in education from February 18-22, 2002. 10 African countries are expected to send participants: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Senegal, and Zambia.

Mr. Armoogum Parsuramen,
Director of BREDA

Mr. Ian Hopwood, UNICEF's Representative in Dakar
This workshop is in direct relation with the recommendations of the World Forum on Education for All held in Dakar in April 2000, during which African governments collectively committed to reach the objectives of the Dakar Framework for Action.
Thus, the use of the new technologies of information and communication (NTIC) constitutes a tool of choice in order to reach EFA goals.

Mr. Babacar Fall, Director of Panapress

Mr. Matar Diagne and Mr. Benoît Sossou, Education consultants at Breda

That is why the United Nations system in general, and UNESCO and UNICEF in particular have, in collaboration with PANAPRESS, organized a media coverage campaign whose first phase is the training of journalists about educational concepts.

There will be various presentations on the strategies to promote girls' education and to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS within Africa's education systems.
