Introduction of Communication and Information Technologies into the class practices of primary education in Senegal

(19-23 July, 2005, Dakar, Senegal)

The workshop organised by the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICbA), Dakar Node, from 19-23 July, 2003 aimed at helping the teachers of Senegal to introduce ICT into their class practices.

Therefore 12 teachers coming from the primary schools Front de Terre, Serigne Amadou Aly Mbaye and Charles Baudelaire of Dakar acquired knowledge and know-how on Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) allowing them to present their courses, to manage notes and to put animation in the presentations. They also tackled the means of communication on Internet, especially the surfing on Internet, the use of search engines and the creation of e-mails. Thus, they will be able to have access to courses and recent documents on Internet as well as educational websites. At last, they could design web pages with Netscape Composer, which will enable them to continue the development their own educational website that was undertaken during the workshop.

The persons who have already been trained will be responsible for gearing down this training to the teachers of their school.

The training was given Mrs. Agathe Fiset of the Ministry for Education, Leisure and the Sport of Quebec (Canada) who offered her services free of charge with the view of upgrading the teaching and learning practices in Senegal. She benefited from the collaboration of Mr. Pape Amadou Sene of the Institut National d’Etudes et d’Action pour le Developpement (INEADE) and Dr. Alioune Moustapha Diouf of the Faculté des Sciences et Technologies de l’Education et de la Formation (FASTEF).
