THE DAKAR
MEDIA CENTER
This is a center that
provides vocational training in the field of new technologies; its
television section has been operational for the last four years. A
dozen boys and girls are recruited every year by competition to receive
theoretical and practical training in cinematography, sound recording,
editing, script writing, but also since the start of this year, in
computer graphics.
The Media Center supervizes
the students in directing their film projects and also organizes for the
district youth some workshops on the writing of documentary films tackling
social issues.
What is the DISTRICT FILM?
The District Film derives its
name from the fact that it is often produced in collaboration with the residents
of the district who allow access to their homes as film sets, appear in
the film as characters or extras, and/or help in the production, because
the young directors are often from these very same districts.
In addition to the residents
of the district, several young people were attracted to the possibility
of directing their own video projects, with the support of the Media Center
staff and technical teams made up of former students, from conception to
post-production.
THE 2000 EDITION
Only the films directed in
the last two years will take part in the 2000 Edition. Only winning films
and runners-up will be shown. The Media Center organizes on its premises
and in the districts several workshops aimed at the youth on collaborative
research, script-writing, documentary film-making. These various workshops
will lead to the making of films on these districts. The 2000 Edition of
the District Film Festival will integrate in its planning works for young
amateurs, whether or not they have been through the training center.
