UNESCOs main objective is to contribute to peace and security
in the world by promoting collaboration among nations through education,
science, culture and communication.
The Director-General has launched a process of change within the Organization
so that it may more effectively respond to the challenges of the twenty-first
century.
In order to function effectively and meet the expectations of its Member
States, UNESCO needs dedicated staff who are competent in a multitude
of fields. The following occupational categories are those for which the
Organization recruits.
Professional category: The professional
category (P) groups specialists in the fields of education, science, culture,
communication and administration.
General service category: The
General Service category (G or L) groups mainly clerks, secretaries, technicians
and manual workers.
